Excel translates files automatically

When you open a workbook created in German Excel in an English Excel, all formulas are shown with English names. You only need to translate when you copy a formula as text, for example from a German tutorial, forum or colleague's email.

Practice in either language

Our exercises accept both. =SUMIF(A2:A6,"Berlin",C2:C6) and =SUMMEWENN(A2:A6;"Berlin";C2:C6) both count as correct, and you set your Excel language below each exercise. Start with XLOOKUP or the full Excel course.

Frequently asked questions

What is VLOOKUP in German Excel?

SVERWEIS. The S stands for senkrecht, German for vertical. The structure is the same, but arguments are separated by semicolons.

Why does a copied formula show #NAME?

Usually a German function name is used in an English Excel or the other way round. Translate the name with the table above and swap semicolons for commas.
